Kanan Fire Burns 26 Acres

A possible explosion preceded the fire.

A hillside fire broke out behind a Westlake Village home around 2 p.m. yesterday, after callers reported a possible explosion and smoke near Featherwood St. and Fawn Ridge.

The fire had grown to 26 acres as of 3:30 p.m., with mandatory evacuations ordered for Featherwood Street.

As of 6:30 p.m., it appears the fire was extinguished, with evacuations lifted.

Fire crews and deputies coordinated a mutual-assist response around 2 p.m. as radio traffic later indicated the hillside was fully engulfed in flames.

Rangers reportedly advised crews to access the area from Westlake Blvd. and Ellison Court, with building fire units already responding. No injuries were reported. No additional information was immediately available.
