Driver Plows Down Venice Pier, Hits Cyclist

The woman hit a cyclist before fleeing.

A woman sent pedestrians scrambling down the Venice Pier last night, hitting a bicyclist before leading police on a short chase that ended in her arrest.

The chaos began just before 10 p.m., when police responded to reports of a car striking a bicyclist near the pier, at the 3100 block of Ocean Front Walk. By the time officers arrived, the driver had traveled to the end of the pier, before turning around and [accelerating back through the crowd](https://ktla.com/news/local-news/woman-drives-on-venice-beach-pier-before-leading-police-on-chase-hitting-officers/), toward both pedestrians and police.

Cell phone footage from the scene shows people diving out of the car's path as it sped down the narrow walkway. One witness, who was fishing on the pier with his son, told NBC4 they had to dodge the vehicle twice.

The driver subsequently fled, [triggering a brief pursuit](https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/pursuit-standoff-marina-del-rey/3924889/) that ended in Marina del Rey, near Via Marina and Pacific Avenue. Police performed a PIT maneuver to stop the car, and the woman was taken into custody around 10:30 p.m.

She was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, and NBC4 is reporting she will likely face DUI charges as well. Social media posts alleged the driver appeared impaired, though police haven't confirmed that detail.

No word yet on the condition of the bicyclist, or the identity of the driver.

In the wake of the incident, L.A. Councilmember Traci Park said the city will install barriers at the entrance of the pier.
