Erewhon Eyes August Opening in T.O.

The luxury grocer's foray into Ventura County has already drawn some controversy.

Erewhon is targeting an August grand opening at The Lakes at Thousand Oaks, according to the Conejo Valley Guide, which reports the date could land in the third full week of the month.

The store will be the luxury grocer's  [first in Ventura County](https://ktla.com/news/local-news/upscale-southern-california-grocery-chain-erewhon-is-expanding/), occupying the space left by Lassens Natural Food & Vitamins in the Caruso-owned shopping center.

Erewhon's arrival hasn't been without controversy. When plans were announced last year, some locals [protested the ousting of Lassens](https://www.toacorn.com/articles/lassens-out-erewhon-in-at-the-lakes/), a family-owned health food store that operated at The Lakes for seven years before Caruso declined to extend its lease. Critics argued the notoriously pricey grocer, home of the $20 Hailey Bieber smoothie, was a poor fit for the community.
