For the first time, Malibu city crews are removing graffiti from private property/

[Public works staff](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNfRiSRINU4&t=10499s) told the Public Works Commission this week that 61 properties in the Palisades burn scar have graffiti visible along PCH. The city has secured right-of-entry forms from 32 property owners, is pursuing the remaining 28 or so, and has cleaned 11 properties to date.

Ordinarily, the split is strict. The city's maintenance contractor handles graffiti in the public right-of-way, including curbs, gutters, bus stops, trash cans, while anything on private property is the owner's responsibility, enforced through code enforcement. Staff confirmed the city offered no such program after the Woolsey fire, or the Broad and Franklin fires.

The reasoning, a staff member said during last week’s meeting, was simple.

"It's bad enough that the residents have gone through fire."
