Man Detained After Machete Threat at Discount Store

The suspect reportedly threatened a security guard.

A man armed with a machete and razor blade was detained in Canoga Park this evening after threatening a security guard at a discount store, according to radio reports.

The incident was reported just after 6:10 p.m. at the dd's Discounts near De Soto Ave. and Roscoe Blvd. Police indicated the man, described as bald and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, threatened a guard with a machete, then tried to strike him with a razor blade while holding a pole.

The suspect left the store on foot, and officers detained him minutes later near Roscoe Blvd. and Canoga Ave. Additional units and a supervisor were called to the scene.

It's unclear if the man has been charged.
