All Malibu Beaches Evacuated, Closed Due to Lightning

Rain and lightening prompted evacuations from all beaches in Malibu and Santa Monica, hours after closing the Chili Cook Off.

Lightning warnings prompted evacuations and closures of all Malibu beaches on Sunday around 4:30 p.m., according to notifications sent from the city. All beaches in Santa Monica were evacuated and closed as well.

The closures come after rain closed the Chili Cookoff in downtown Malibu earlier today, around 3:45 p.m.
