Dead Man Found in Ocean off Malibu Road

A man was found dead in the water off Malibu Road on Wednesday afternoon, [the Westside Current is reporting](https://www.westsidecurrent.com/malibu/body-recovered-from-water-near-malibu-lagoon/article_6b5df65e-ead0-48f7-9c78-4128ae7e9236.html).

Los Angeles County Fire Department crews pulled the man from the surf near Puerco Beach, about a mile east of Malibu Seafood. He was pronounced dead at the scene at about 3 p.m. The man was naked when he was recovered, [according to Patch](https://patch.com/california/malibu/naked-man-found-dead-water-malibu-beach-reports), which cited KTLA.

Sheriff's homicide detectives are handling the case, though officials said there was no indication of foul play. Early reports suggested the man suffered a medical emergency, but that has not been confirmed.

The man's identity has not been released, and the cause of death remains under investigation.

The man's body was recovered amidst some of the most treacherous ocean conditions in Malibu in recent years, caused by Hurricane Marie. Hours before the man's body was discovered, a 30-foot sinkhole opened beneath actor Nicolas Cage's home near Broad Beach, triggering evacuations and an emergency declaration across the city. Malibu's beaches were also evacuated and temporarily closed earlier this week, after high surf and lightening.
