Suspect Arrested in Weekend Murder

A woman was beaten to death near SMC.

A man was arrested Saturday night in connection with the death of a woman at a residential care facility across the street from Santa Monica College.

Police were called just after 5:20 p.m. Saturday to the 1900 block of Pico Boulevard, where they found a woman with significant injuries. Despite life-saving efforts by firefighters, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Around 8:45 p.m., [CBS LA](https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/santa-monica-college-woman-dead-homicide-suspect-arrested-pico-boulevard/) police announced a suspect was in custody. Authorities haven't said how or where he was located, and neither the suspect nor the victim has been publicly identified. Police say no additional suspects are being sought, though the investigation remains ongoing.

Witnesses told the Daily Press the investigation centered on The Manor, a state-licensed facility at 1905 Pico that has housed adults with mental illness and developmental disabilities since 1965.
