Main Street Resale Shop Closes Abruptly, Leaving Consignors Scrambling
Posh Duck customers say they can't get their designer goods or money back
September 15, 2026 · Santa Monica
The Posh Duck, a luxury resale boutique on Main Street in Santa Monica, closed abruptly last month, leaving consignors scrambling to reclaim designer handbags and jewelry and chasing answers about money they say they are owed, [the Santa Monica Daily Press is reporting](https://www.smdp.com/consignors-say-owner-of-resale-store-ducked-them-with-abrupt-closure/).
The shop at 2711 Main St. sold authenticated pre-owned pieces from brands including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Prada, operating both in-store and through an online consignor portal. It had been at the address since 2011, previously as a location of The Closet Trading Company, before rebranding as The Posh Duck in 2025.
In an Aug. 13 email, the store's owner, Lawrie, announced the closure and gave consignors just four days to retrieve their items in person, warning that staff would not have time to pull individual orders. Anything left behind by that Sunday evening would be donated to Love the City Thrift, a nonprofit Lawrie also manages.
The announcement set off a wave of complaints on Yelp and Nextdoor. Several consignors said they never received the pickup notice at all. One reviewer said she found the store already empty after her online account stopped working. Another said the store's Instagram, phone number and consignor portal had all been deactivated, leaving her unable to verify roughly $200 she said she was owed.
Confusion deepened on Aug. 24, when consignors received an email saying The Posh Duck had filed for bankruptcy and directing them to contact an attorney. Hours later, a follow-up email retracted the claim, saying consignors would be contacted about outstanding balances and remaining items within 90 to 120 days.
Multiple consignors said they have filed complaints with the Santa Monica City Attorney's Consumer Protection Unit, and encouraged others to do the same.
