Pregnant Woman Critically Wounded in Shooting

A pregnant woman is in critical condition after a man walked up to a parked car in a Canoga Park alley Monday morning and opened fire, wounding her and a second woman.

Officers were called to the 8300 block of Northgate Avenue, near an apartment complex, around 7:50 a.m. Sunday, [MyNewsLA is reporting](https://mynewsla.com/crime/2026/08/24/woman-22-in-critical-condition-after-being-shot-in-canoga-park/). The two women were inside a vehicle in the alley when a 26-year-old man approached, pulled out a handgun and fired, striking both, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The suspect fled on foot before officers arrived. Police described him as a 26-year-old Hispanic man, [according to the New York Post](https://nypost.com/2026/08/24/us-news/pregnant-woman-critically-injured-in-canoga-park-shooting/). No arrest had been announced as of Monday.

Both women were taken to a hospital. The 22-year-old, who is pregnant, was listed in critical condition. The second woman, whose age police gave as 26, was reported stable and is expected to survive.

Police have not said whether the gunman knew the victims or what led to the shooting.
