RV With $104k in Parking Tickets Towed

The car was parked near Nicholas Beach for numerous years.

An RV parked on PCH in Malibu for more than three years was finally towed last week, after racking up more than a hundred thousand in parking tickets.

It’s unclear if anyone was in the camper at the time.

Malibu residents have long complained about the increasing number of RVs parked permanently along PCH. In 2024, LA County passed an [overnight parking ban](https://abc7.com/post/los-angeles-county-board-supervisors-vote-expand-ban-overnight-parking-pch/15354016/) on the highway in Malibu.

RVs have remained on PCH despite the ban. Under a[2023 California Court of Appeal ruling](https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/court-finds-towing-of-cars-with-unpaid-tickets-unconstitutional/), cities can’t tow legally parked vehicles over unpaid citations alone.

The camper towed last week from near Nicholas Beach had over $104,000 in unpaid citations, Sheriff's Sergeant Silverman told the Malibu City Council this week. But deputies were only able to remove it after they noticed it had lost a wheel, allowing them to red-tag it as abandoned.
