Senior Couple Killed in Early Morning House Fire

A couple in their 90s were found dead inside their burning home near downtown Santa Monica.

A couple in their 90s were found dead in their bedroom early Sunday morning, after a fast-moving fire engulfed their home near downtown Santa Monica.

Firefighters responded to the fire at around 3 a.m., after neighbors noticed flames in the windows of a single-story home on Lincoln Blvd. Firefighters found the house engulfed in flames, and after spotting a car in the driveway, entered the burning structure to search for occupants.

Inside, crews found a man and a woman in a primary bedroom at the back of the house. They were pulled from the home, but [pronounced dead at the scene,](https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2026-08-09/elderly-couple-dies-in-santa-monica-home-fire) Division Chief James Altman said.

Police haven’t released their names, but a caretaker for the couple said they’d been married for 70 years.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, as is the cause of their deaths.
