Man Rescued by Helicopter in Waters off Point Dume
Multiple agencies responded tonight after a local man reportedly got caught in a rip tide off Big Dume.

A local man was rescued by helicopter from the waters off Point Dume just before 8 p.m. tonight, according to initial reports.
Calls came into Lost Hills Police around 7:00 p.m., after multiple people witnessed a man struggling in the water off Big Dume beach, near Cliffside Dr. Coastguard and emergency crews responded, before a helicopter was dispatched around 7:30 p.m. The helicopter ultimately hoisted the man safely from the water.
The man, identified only as a male in his 50s, reportedly refused medical care, and was ultimately assisted by police to his home nearby in Point Dume.
The rescue comes just hours after all Malibu beaches were quickly evacuated and ultimately closed amidst potential lightening strikes and rain, as [Hurricane Marie begins its descent](https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2026-09-06/hurricane-marie-socal-weather-rain) on the west coast. Rain from the storm also closed the Chili Cook Off early today.
