Woolsey Rebuild Permits Face November Deadline

Homebuilders have until November 9 to apply for a permit or extension request.

Malibu property owners still rebuilding from the Woolsey Fire have until November 9 to obtain a building permit for non-conforming rebuild projects, or ask for more time.

The deadline applies to projects that received planning approval but never pulled a building permit, Planning Director Tyler Eaton told the Planning Commission at Monday's meeting. Owners who won't make the cutoff can request an extension, but those requests must be submitted by November 9 and approved by the Planning Commission.

The commission granted two such extensions at this week's meeting, and staff said they expect more as the deadline approaches.

Under the city's rebuild rules, fire victims had six years to submit a planning application and eight years to obtain a building permit. Woolsey burned in November 2018, destroying more than 400 homes in Malibu.
